The da Vinci Xi: test drive our new robot
Jorge E De Amorim Filho, MD
Portneuf is excited to introduce the next generation in robotic surgery, the da Vinci Xi. In fact, our first procedure with our new robot took place on April 3, 2019; we performed a sigmoid colon resection for chronic diverticulitis, an infection of the colon. The patient was walking four hours after the operation.
For those in our community who may need surgery now or in the future, surgical robotics continues to transform the way we operate and, more importantly, how our patients recover. Through small, 1cm incisions, we are able to control the arms of the robot and see the surgical site in super high definition with 3 dimensional imagery. Because the surgical instruments move like miniature hands, there is more precise dissecting which means less damage to tissue. This all translates into less invasive, higher precision surgery with less postoperative discomfort, shorter hospital stay and faster return to normal activity.
If you would like more information about robotic surgery or if you want to test drive the latest in da Vinci Xi Robot Technology, our surgical team invites you to a special open house. Join us on Monday, April 8 in the Pebble Creek Conference Room at the Portneuf Medical Center. Doors open at 6:00 pm; we will have short presentation beginning at 6:30 pm. After the presentation, attendees can test drive the robot. Light refreshments will be served. To reserve a seat, visit www.portneuf.org/event or call 208-239-2033.
In March, our team celebrated our 2,000 robotic surgery. The 2,000 surgery is an important benchmark because it demonstrates our commitment to state of the art care and quality. We are committed to robotic surgery because it is the most advanced technology there is in general surgery, urology and gynecology. Its benefit to patients is clearly demonstrated.
