Jared Wilson, MPAS, MEd, PA-C, ATC is a certified and licensed physician assistant (PA-C) and athletic trainer (ATC). He is from Rigby, Idaho and is pleased to have returned to southeast Idaho to finish his education and settle down, claiming Pocatello as “home.”
With a lifelong love of both sports and healthcare, and encouragement to seek education in subjects of personal interest, he happened upon an undergraduate degree in athletic training, which he completed at Brigham Young University, in Utah. This was followed by a master’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia. Ultimately he obtained another master’s degree, this time from Idaho State University in Physician Assistant Studies in 2011. He has remained in Pocatello since.
The educational background and practice capabilities of both physician assistants and athletic trainers are commonly misunderstood by the general public; Mr. Wilson is an advocate for both professions and encourages people to seek further information at www.aapa.org and www.nata.org.
His entire career as a PA has been with Portneuf Medical Group, with the surgery team. This path stemmed from an appreciation of human anatomy, interest in injury, and enthusiasm for operative intervention. Concerning surgery he stated, “With so many variables in the medical world, it is nice to have a known problem, a known solution, and to be able to intervene and see patients get better.” He will readily admit, however, the greatest reason for his ongoing career in a general surgery practice is his association with the amiable and high quality surgeons that have trained him and continue to work with him.
When away from work, Jared participates in a wide variety of activities, including (but certainly not limited to) mountain biking, road cycling, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, basketball, and traveling. He especially enjoys spending time with his friends and family, particularly his wife, Abby.
