Cody Martin, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. He completed medical school at the University of Utah, finished his residency at the University of Florida Jacksonville, with clinical rotations at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, and earned his fellowship while focusing on hip and knee joint reconstruction at the University of Virginia.

He is honored that patients allow him to be part of their lives through the doctor-patient relationship. "When that relationship is based on trust, honest communication, hard work and quality care, patients are able to overcome their ailments and enjoy a better quality of life,” Martin said.

Cody’s mother, a nurse, introduced him to the field of medicine at a young age. He has always enjoyed helping people and problem solving; both fundamental requirements of a skilled physician. His interest in medicine continued while serving a mission in West Africa, where he was fortunate to be able to assist in prenatal clinics.

Prior to his pursuit of medicine, Cody received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University. Having a foundational education in engineering has strengthened Cody’s ability to problem solve and think conceptually while in the operating room. The son of a general contractor, Cody grew up working on construction sites, working with his hands, and using power tools. He feels right at home working with delicate power tools on the human body while repairing joints.

“One of the sweetest joys in this life is helping relieve someone else’s pain and suffering," said Martin. "I love being an orthopaedic surgeon, because I am able to see patients overcome their injuries and musculoskeletal problems, and improve their quality of life. I may not have all the answers, but I have the resources to ensure that I can provide the very best care an orthopaedic surgeon has to offer.”

Cody is looking forward to practicing medicine while being closer to his family, and in a region with plenty of outdoor activities. When not practicing medicine, Cody enjoys spending time with his children, playing sports, running and hunting. Cody is open to most hobbies – he even took a Latin dance class with his wife during college.

Doctor Martin was wonderful plus all his staff. My husband had to have both his knees replaced. We did one at a time and he was very patient with us and explained everything very well for us to understand. Each procedure improved my husbands knees tremendously. He now has almost full motion in both knee caps again and has almost no pain in them. We cannot thank him enough for the great improvement he has done for my husband.

My son and I are so thankful for Dr. Martin's skill, experienced staff, and surgical expertise. We met Dr. Martin and Shawn Jensen in the ER after my son was injured in an accident. Dr. Martin repaired my son's femur immediately following the accident in an emergency surgery and Shawn performed follow-up visits during my son's hospital stay and the medical office. Both were very professional, compassionate toward my son, and were eager to answer all of his questions and provide valuable advice. I felt they really cared about the outcome of his overall health and were willing to do whatever was needed to ensure my son had the information, referrals, and tools he needed to make a full recovery. Dr. Martin didn't sugar coat anything and was very upfront about the procedure and expectations. These gentleman worked as a great team at a very scary time for my family and I couldn't be more thankful.

I was a patient of Dr. Martin at Northern Arizona Orthopedics in Prescott, AZ. I saw him complaining of knee pain and mild-to-moderate knee disability. He sent me to radiology for knee imaging, listened carefully to my history, and offered me three options: surgery, steroid injections, or rest and self-healing. After listening to the pros and cons he stated for each option, I chose self-healing. I went from hiking 500 mi/yr when healthy to 250 mi/yr while feeling pain to 50 mi/year for the past year. Just hiked 20 miles in a week with lots of ups and downs on slickrock and scree in the Sedona, AZ area, and my knee feels great. Kudos to Doc Martin for giving me options and affirming my choice.
