Surgical Specialists
Mara Additon, MD is a board certified general and trauma surgeon from Boulder, CO. She aspired to become a doctor at an early age and at fourteen read an article in National Geographic about surgical advancements in the treatment of brain injury. This article made a significant impression on her and solidified her desire to become a surgeon. She chose general surgery because she enjoys the day-to-day variability and the broad spectrum of surgical conditions that the specialty presents.
Mara attended the University of Oregon and earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and math while also playing collegiate division 1 volleyball. She went on to the University of Colorado where she earned her master’s degree in biostatistics. Her thesis focused on survival factors in cardiac-related surgeries. Prior to medical school, Mara conducted research and statistical analyses on heart and liver transplantation with the division of transplant at the University of Colorado. She completed medical school and her residency program at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Additon chose to practice in southeast Idaho because she, along with her husband, Aubrey, and their two young boys, loves Pocatello’s small-town feel an the many outdoor activities Idaho has to offer.
